Deadline for submissions is February 15, 2009.

New! All work must be submitted online through our Submissions Manager. Follow the directions online to properly submit your work. If you have any questions, you may contact us at stylus.umd@gmail.com

Stylus accepts high-quality submissions of poetry, prose and art from all currently enrolled University of Maryland students. Our reading period is from September to February, and our final deadline is February 15. We encourage students to submit early in the year in order to receive detailed feedback on their work. We accept up to five pieces per genre, though some students may be invited to submit more. The work is put through a rigorous, anonymous review process. Authors may be offered suggestions for revision. A two-sentence biography of the author or artist must accompany each submission. We maintain flexibility in the layout process; no work is guaranteed acceptance until publication.

Submissions Guidelines
1. Follow the directions provided on the Submission Manager site carefully.
2. As Stylus is only open to members of the University of Maryland, a valid UID is required to submit.
3. Pieces should be submitted in a word processing document. Art should be submitted as a .jpeg, .png, or .tif file.
4. For organizational purposes, please submit a separate file for each piece, i.e., do not group multiple poems together in one file. Once you have registered and submitted your first piece, you will have the opportunity to submit additional pieces.

Prose Stylus has a 2,500 word limit on all prose pieces. Depending on space, prose pieces may also be edited for length. If any edits or revisions are necessary, Stylus will contact you as soon as possible.

Multilingual Work should be accompanied by an English translation included within the document file.

Art Files should be at 300dpi or greater. Submitters should also include information about the medium and actual dimensions or size of each art piece in the comment field. Students unable to send their pieces electronically should contact our Art Director.
